Female Users Prefer Pinterest, While Male Internet Users Prefer Reddit

The gender-division of the online populace can reveal some very interesting facts. With millions of users using online social media sites, we can easily gauge which gender prefers what kinds of social networks and why. It has now been revealed through data from Google Ad Planner that Pinterest has a majority of its users as females, showing that women prefer Pinterest.

On the other hand, men take to Reddit often which is stuff with technology-related as well as sexist conversations and articles. Moreover, men also have a knack for YouTube, comprising of more than half the population of YouTube.

Women, on the other hand, seem to have more refined tastes when it comes to social media. Of Twitter’s total population, 62 percent are females. Moreover, women tend to engage on such sites where they can connect with their friends or share photos, such as through Instagram. Women also often connect through such sites which will help them catch up with old friends, such as classmates.com.

Men, on the other hand, have a knack for more open social networks such as Reddit, Digg and del.icio.us.  All of these social networks are heavily male-dominated in terms of population.

Pinterest, naturally, stands right on top of women’s list since the website commands a huge population of female users. However, there are such sites where no specific gender trends are exhibited. These sites include Foursquare, Scribd and Orkut.
