Stephen Pakbaz, a mechanical engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory who helped design the real Curiosity rover has brought a model of the Curiosity using LEGO Brick. Goes beyond saying, this artificial Curiosity has not that much length or weight like the real one, but its looks is completely like the real Curiosity. The suspension system on this model works the same way as the real one, with an offset differential mechanism. The Lego Curiosity Rover has “a fully articulated arm, a deployable mast, a working rocker-bogie suspension that allows it to climb over large rocks and keep all of its wheels on the ground’.

Stephen Pakbaz has put together an awesome 46 page PDF file of step-by-step instructions on how to build your own LEGO model of Curiosity. Stephen has included a complete parts list on the last two pages of the PDF file. Besides, he has also produced a model file for the LEGO Digital Designer software that can be downloaded as well.

Pakbaz has also made his own seven Lego Curiosity kits, which he has sent to various museums, as well as to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory Mars Public Engagement Office.

Be noted, last year, Pakbaz posted his design for a 313 piece, 1:20 scale version of the Curiosity rover on LEGO’s CUUSOO website, where the public can vote for fan-created LEGO sets. If 10,000 or more people cast their support behind a particular design, LEGO says it will consider producing it as a commercial model. Since November 15, 2011, Pakbaz’s LEGO rover has received just over 1,500 votes. You can support this model on LEGO CUUSOO if you would like to see it become an official LEGO set.
