Hulu Plus Coming To Nintendo Systems

Nintendo will update the Nintendo 3DS firmware with 3-D video shooting capability at the end of November and to allowing users to shoot up to 10 minutes at a stretch of stereoscopic video, the feature will support stop-motion animation, so users can create their own Robot Chicken-style animations using a 3DS. Nintendo also would add the Hulu Plus streaming video subscription service to Wii and 3DS. With both Hulu and Netflix in tow, the 3DS is actually turning into quite a powerful little portable and Nintendo has been doubling down on 3D video as of late………………….

Amazon Increased Prime Instant Video Selection

Online retailer Amazon.com Inc. said Wednesday that it has expanded its licensing agreement with PBS to let members of its Amazon Prime premium shipping program watch current and older PBS programs and Amazon said this will bring the total number of instant videos available to Prime members, who pay $79 a year for discounted shipping costs to 12,000. Naturally that means lots of episodes of NOVA and Antiques Roadshow and for the first time on digital video, 200 episodes of The French Chef with Julia Child. It still has a ways to go to match Netflix, but with a lower yearly price, sweet shipping deal and now the ability to teach you how to make an omelet……………..

DARPA Phoenix Program

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has kicked off an initiative to harvest and re-use valuable components from dead satellites in geosynchronous orbit (GEO), more than $300 billion worth of satellites are estimated to be in geosynchronous orbit 22,000 miles above the earth. This would be a boost to DARPA’s System F6- a program which is touted to be successful in next few years, probably 2015 and the features of project Phoenix involve establishing techniques for long range monitoring. In other words as you can inspect the drilling operations getting operated on the ocean floors and if you are sitting thousands of miles away, similarly you can also have robots, which can be maneuvered in space while the person responsible is present in the operating center below. DARPA is also looking into building tiny satlets, which could simply be clipped to the antennas of deactivated satellites for breathing new life into them and saving a significant chunk of cash…………………..

Verizon Confirms Samsung Galaxy Nexus Launch

Verizon officially confirmed that it will offer the Samsung Galaxy Nexus later this year and the arrier did not announce an exact release date or pricing at this time, but Samsung and Google said last week at the unveiling event that the smartphone would start shipping in the US, as well as parts of Asia and Europe, in November. Intel’s target release day for the new Sandy Brdige E processors and their Xeon E5 equivalents has slipped to early 2012, which will likely delay any Mac Pro updates until then and the chips were originally planned for release on November 15th. The reason for the continued fluidity in launch timing is unknown and Apple’s primary MacBook Pro and MacBook Air aluminum case supplier, Catcher Technology has been forced to temporarily shut down its factory over over pollution concerns. Apple has reportedly already ramped down production of its current MacBook Pro model and that will likely lead to increasingly tight supplies heading into the refresh………………..

Thinfilm, a Norwegian developer of printable memory has co-announced with California’s Xerox PARC a development that takes a big step towards the day when every manufactured object will report in to the internet and Thinfilm has been producing low-capacity read/write printable memory, which has been used in such applications as personalized toys and games. The resulting integrated circuits are essentially CMOS chips that can be printed on large rolls at extremely low cost and the most obvious application of the technology is in NFC chips, but the small price and size could find the printable circuits turning up as everything from price tags to freshness sensors on food packaging……………….

Fisker Karma Receives EPA Certification For Sale

Fisker Automotive said it has begun selling its 2012 Karma luxury plug-in hybrid car, following certification this week by the Environmental Protection Agency and the low-slung four-door sports car, which is a bit like the spawn of a Chevrolet Volt and an Aston Martin Rapide. Fisker had predicted a rating of 67 mpge and an all-electric range of 50 miles, the EPA disagreed, certifying the car with 52 mpge, a range of 32 miles and 20 mpg in gasoline mode after that. EPA certification is the final hurdle preventing Fisker from selling the Karma in the US and since the numbers are finally in, the company will start importing the cars now-ish with the first 39 arriving on our shores from Finland in about 2 weeks………………….

According to the official tech specs page for the iPhone 4S, Apple has added support for GLONASS in addition to GPS on its latest gadget and GLONASS stands for Globalnaya Navigazionnaya Sputnikovaya Sistema or Global Navigation Satellite System when translated from Russian. GLONASS is Russia’s alternative to the United States’ Global Positioning System (GPS) and it’s network comprises of 24 satellites that achieved full global coverage as recently as the beginning of this month. GPS has a little more accuracy than GLONASS in most parts of the globe, but the latter provides better mapping of the northern areas of our planet and Qualcomm says GLONASS improves GPS accuracy in urban environments by 50 percent……………
