The California-based developer behind a wide-scale buildout of charging stations for electric vehicles in the Chicago area has chosen Coulomb Technologies to provide 180 stations that can charge an electric vehicle in a matter of hours and Chicago’s public charging stations will join a network of privately-installed Coulomb charging stations already operating at parking garages and businesses across Chicago. The ChargePoint Network will allow 350Green to track revenues, fees, costs, utilization and other EV services and with the latest announcement the ChargePoint Network is expected to grow to over 1,000 locations, many with fast charging capabilities……………..

Honda has opened the UK’s first public-access hydrogen refueling station and it located at the grounds of Honda of the UK Manufacturing in Swindon, and everyone who needs a little hydrogen in their lives is welcome. The commercial-scale station can fill vehicles at either 350 or 700 bar, which are the two standard pressures used by major vehicle manufacturers and filling up an FCX is said to take less than five minutes, and due to the fact that the station uses multiple hydrogen cylinders. Using tested technology in a way that can be easily replicated to create the network of hydrogen refuelling stations that would be required across the country to support fuel-cell-based transport and no official word as to whether Tilda Swinton plans to officiate the opening……………..

Toyota Announced Production Of Prius Plug-In Hybrid

Toyota officially unveils production Prius plug-in hybrid, available March 2012 for $32,000 and the Chevrolet Volt has stolen a lot of thunder from the Prius in the media coverage department, but Prius sales are still continuing strong. The plug-in aims to retain some of those buyers and offer the large existing pool of Prius customers an enhanced option from Toyota and also gains a new lithium-ion battery pack, ditching the older NIMH technology of the standard cars. The plug-in Prius can operate in electric-vehicle (EV) mode for an estimated 15 miles at a speed of up to 62 miles per hour and the plug-in will switch to hybrid mode, providing an estimated 49 miles per gallon. The Hybrid Synergy Drive system in the Prius Plug-in Hybrid is essentially the same as in the current third-generation Prius and new Prius v models……………….

Luxury car maker Audi says it will unveil its A2 electric concept car during the Frankfurt Motor Show this month and the vehicle is about 12 and a half feet long is still roomy enough for four people. With the A2 Concept, Audi is looking to move its LED lighting technology into the next generation and the headlights feature a high-resolution, non-glaring high beam and high-efficiency low beam light modules. Volvo and Siemens aid they plan a partnership to develop electric vehicles and aim to start testing the autos by the end of this year. The first of Volvo’s vehicles to be fitted with a Siemens electric drive motor will hit test tracks by the end of 2011 and the Swedish automaker will deliver up to 200 vehicles to Siemens to be evaluated under real-world conditions. he two manufacturers are collaborating on vehicles equipped with electric drive motors, in particular Siemens’s C30 DRIVe and tests will begin later this year with 200 vehicles set to be delivered in late 2012 for evaluation under real-life conditions……………..

Toyota Smashes EV Record On Nurburgring

Toyota Motorsport Group’s PV001 EV set a record for fastest electric vehicle on the Nürburgring Nordschleife and this beats the previous electric car time by a healthy margin and puts Toyota’s electric racer on par with the lap times recorded by vehicles like the Nissan GT-R and Porsche 911 Turbo, but is still a ways off the any-powertrain-goes record of 6:48. The just-bested EV record was set by Peugeot’s EX1 earlier this year at 9.01:33 and the EX1 averaged a rather impressive 85.9 miles per hour on the grueling track. Toyota hopes the victory will bring new awareness to electric racing and perhaps to help sell custom race cars in the future and the project is a valuable chance to test high-performance electric powertrains in a real motorsport environment, giving TMG’s engineer’s a chance to learn more about cooling, battery performance, motor performance, durability, etc……………

World’s Smallest And Lightest Chargers For Electric Vehicles Is In Developent

Kyoto-based Nichicon has now developed what they say are the world’s smallest and chargers for these vehicles, the NQC-A202 and the NQC-A302, both chargers are sized at just 150x35x60cm, about 50% smaller than existing devices. By using what the company calls advanced module technology, it was able to shrink its EV charger down by 50 percent to around 59 x 13.8 x 23.6 inches and reducing the weight by up to 66 percent. These 20-30kW chargers will work with electric vehicles like Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV and the Nissan Leaf, taking between 35 and 60 minutes to fully power your whip…………..
