The niche market of 7-inch tablet had been unexplored until Amazon released Kindle Fire and it took the world by quite a storm, at least for a few weeks after it’s release. It’s overall sales too could be bested only by Apple. This success made all tablet vendors realize that 7-inch tablet market is a lucrative and no less important avenue. So while we had earlier heard that Apple is working on a similar sized tablet, we now have been told by analysts from DisplaySearch that Google is also in the process of developing a 7-inch tablet.

The fate of iPad sales in China has been pretty much on the line as Apple and Proview engage in a legal battle over the rights to iPad trademark. Proview is of the opinion that it holds the rights to the trademark in China and is seeking $2 billion from Apple for violating these rights. Apple, on the other hand, has stated that it purchased these rights years ago and that Proview’s allegations are false. Now, the People’s Court in Shanghai has rejected Proview’s preliminary injunctions to bad iPad sales. This means that for now, Apple can continue with iPad sales in China unabated.

Rumors have been doing rounds on the web about a Microsoft Office for iPad app. In fact, The Daily has gone on to even present what it calls the ‘first glimpse’ of the app running on the tablet. According to The Daily’s Matt Hickey, he got to spend some time with a ‘working prototype’ of the app and that the app for the Office suite has the same metro-look that Microsoft seems focused on, of late. Microsoft, on the other hand, has debunked these claims as ‘based on inaccurate rumors and speculation.’

Apple introduced the A4 chip in the original iPad and iPhone 4 devices. The chip caused quite an uproar because it was a huge step forward with Apple taking charge of it’s own chips. Apple then continued the progress by using the A5 chips in iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. Quite naturally, all Apple enthusiasts were now expecting that Apple will introduce an A6 chip in the iPad 3 which is all set to be launched by Apple next month. Amazon’s Kindle Fire has been one of the true runaways hits in the tablet market, as of late. Just a while ago, in the third quarter of 2011, Amazon’s share in the tablet market was zero percent. Quite simply because Amazon has no tablet out there and was simply producing e-book readers. Then Amazon released Kindle Fire at the start of Q4 and within one quarter, this tablet was able to grab a huge 14 percent of the tablet market! This is what a new report from IHS Suppli says.
