Android 2.3 hit the web for Droid X owners earlier this week, but that update previously required a tethered, manual install and the update is available over the air, so cable-free purists can finally start cooking with Gingerbread on their Droid X handsets. With Android 2.3 Gingerbread update you get speedy navigation, a customizable dock, and an overhauled camera app……….

 

The update to Android Gingerbread for the Motorola Droid X has officially become available for all handsets and previously the update was only available for selected users who chose to root their phones, but now all Droid X owners can upgrade to Android 2.3. The new OS features a speedier navigation, customizable dock, an overhauled camera app and a newer version of Motoblur, update is available through OTA, or you can find it by navigating your settings and system updates (Menu -> Settings -> About phone -> System updates) or also you can update manualy.

 

UPGRADE PATHS:

  • Method One: The first method to upgrade to gingerbread from froyo is to sbf you phone back to stock froyo (2.3.340) and await for the upgrade OTA. (BAD IDEA)
  • Method Two: The second method to upgrade to gingerbread from froyo is to sbf you phone back to stock froyo (2.3.340) and use the 2 install files from below.
  • Method Three: The third method is for anyone currently running a Gingerbread leak (588/591/595). You can just install the appropriate zip right over the top of your previous build.

 

Basic Directions:

  • Dowload the zip
  • Reboot phone into Clockwork Recovery
  • Install the Zip file.

You will install this file using the stock Recovery of the device: Mirror 1: Download Now ; Mirror 2: Download Now

Torrent that contains (odexed, deodexed, and 2 part upgrade.zip) ; DX_GB_596_All (download torrent) – TPB. This is an update.zip that you must load through bootstrap. It will turn on the easter egg which is the Forest Live Wallpaper (pulled from the Dx2) ; ForestFix.zip
