Dreamhost states:
“IMPORTANT INFORMATION: We are writing to let you know that there may have been illegal and unauthorized access to some of your passwords at DreamHost today. Our security systems detected the potential breach this morning and we immediately took the defensive precaution of expiring and resetting all FTP/shell access passwords for all DreamHost customers and their users.”
Forced by the incident, the company had to reset all FTP and shell users’ accounts for all its users. DreamHost users who are using the same log in pass for other services as well should change those passwords as well, in order to axe down any possibility of unauthorized entry.
You aren’t exactly sure how to change your shell and ftp passwords? Just go to the Manage Users interface. Then all you need to do is click on the edit button placed next to the ftp or shell users in order to change the password for the account. Good luck, and do not forget to do it!
