Samsung’s Galaxy S II to Beat iPhone Pre-orders

It appears that Samsung Galaxy II is a success in terms of sales. 200,000 pre-orders have been registered in South Korea which makes iPhone 4 pre-orders from last August to seem minor. To compare 110,000 Apple smartphones were pre-ordered back then.  The orders for Galaxy S II were taken between Monday and Friday last week.

Of those 200,000 pieces, 160,000 have been pre-ordered by the country’s largest carrier, SK Telecom. Galaxy S II got 10,000 pre-orders in just the first 29 minutes after it became available online. That number went up to almost 20,000 pieces in the next 64 minutes.

Samsung made a cautious estimation in regards to Galaxy S II sales. They hope to sell 10 million smartphones in 2011, which is the same unit amount sold for Galaxy’s S II predecessor during its release year. It is possible that Galaxy S II exceeds the sales targets given the fact that its predecessor, I9000 Galaxy S did not reported pre-orders this huge.

Galaxy S II should have a tag price of 425$ or 290 Euros in Korea. Of course, in Europe or in the US, the price will be higher especially during the first weeks when Galaxy S II hits the stores.  Afterwards, prices should settle down.

The competition between Samsung and Apple is definitely a good thing for smartphone users because this gives Apple no other choice but design an all-amazing iPhone 5.

Thanks
