Octopus Keyboard is a new gesture based predictive keyboard app specially designed for the owners of jailbreaked iPhones. The keyboard is inspired by the newly unveiled BlackBerry 10 virtual keyboard. The app is being developed by Mario Hros and it is still in the alpha stages.
So, how does gesture based predictive typing work? Don’t worry, its pretty simple. If you are familiar with T9 prediction technology in mobile phones, then this gesture based predictive typing thing would be piece of cake for you. For example, you want to write ‘happy’. Just type the ‘H’, and the predictive keyboard shows two possible words ‘happy’ and ‘hey’ on the ‘A’ and ‘E’ button respectively (look at the above image). All you have to do now is to hold down the letter ‘A’ and swipe it out toward the writing pad. Look at the following demonstration video of the keyboard for more.
You can get following facilities from the Octopus Keyboard –
- Automatically learns new words as you type them.
- Custom completion engine.
- Should work for any input language with key input (English, French, Czech, Russian, etc.)
- Better handling and display of longer words.
The developer of the Octopus Keyboard expects that this keyboard will be available on May 20.
