Some screenshots leaked a couple of days ago hints a device named Altius from Samsung. From the screenshots and earlier rumors the device is gathered to be a smartwatch from Samsung, to be released later this year.

The user interface was mostly in Korean, but translations of the texts revealed some interesting information. Two of the screenshots show a clock – one encompassing the whole screen, another is sharing the screen with other tiles. The gadget seems to be running AltiusOS beta2; this could either be an Android customization for the watch or a proprietary OS from Samsung based on Java. The LCD of the device is marked by the code name “Samsung-GA7, ” and the screenshots revealed that the screen supports 500×500 pixels. The device also shows the names SKT and SKTelecom in several shots, indicating that the watch may come with data plans in South Korea. Added to this, Altius also features a music player for audiophiles.

If the Samsung Altius truly revels to be a smartwatch from Samsung, then a war might be looming over the market segment.
