  • The heavily modified Unreal Engine 3 ensures HD quality graphics and detailed work on 3D character modeling which makes the game’s visual content the best among the previous releases.

Opinion

The Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is the 4th installment of Transformers series. The first two games were based on the movies. The original storyline of Transformers games has started with the 3rd installment titled Transformers: War of Cybertron. Since then Transformers games are making new appeal to gamers. Transformers: Fall of Cybertron successfully continue that tradition. The open cinematic story telling style of the game is cool. I should praise the script writer for his way of storytelling.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron has new level designs. As the game feature the last battle on Cybertron, obviously both parties in the war takes some damages. The game has a total of 13 missions focusing on both Autobots and Decepticons. In this game, players does not have the freedom to choose Decepticons or Autobots only mission, as they did in the previous War of Cybertron.

However, I have something to say about the plot of Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. In the game, Starscream is seen betraying Megatron and other Decepticons, after Metreplex crashes the former. But we all know that Starscream betrayed his Autobot brothers and joined Decepticons according to the original comic and movie story. In fact this was the opening level of War of Cybertron. I am not saying this is bad. Obviously, this little twist makes the game more thrilling, but it does not show the fate of Starscream after he fails. May be the writer wanted to show this in the next game. But personally, I think that will need most believable story setting. Because if I were Megatron, I could not trust such a character anymore.

The gameplay of Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is the most aggressive direct combat style I have seen. There are lots of unique elements that gazed my eye while playing. I like most of Optimus’s artillery strike by pressing Q; Megaton’s hover strike, jazz’ invisible shield and ability to execute from behind; and obviously Gromlock’s transformation into T-rex.

The wide variety of choices of weapons really proves handy to me. I like riot cannon most as primary weapon for its destructive firepower. As secondary weapon, I prefer Sling shot because it can take down multiple enemies. I always prefer Consumable as assault tech weapons for its ability to clear out whole battalion of enemies. The Perks upgrade was fantastic. It allows almost 75% bonuses in combat abilities of Transformers.

Introduction of Insectibots was a cool feature of the game. I also like the titan Transformers battle segment. Especially Bruticus section was so cool that I played that portion twice. I wish if there were options to control Metreplex directly. I also like the little QTE moments such as Metreplex destroying Megatron or Grimlock smasheing Soundwave.

The Dinobot section is the finest stuff in the game. I never enjoyed controlling a Transformer the way I enjoyed controlling Grimlock. The sword and shield game-play style of Grimlock as well as his T-rex transformation. That is really massive destructive force. I also enjoyed the final battle between Megaton and Optimus with sword and shield. Reminds me of Viking duel.

However, I do have objection about the melee attack. In War of Cybertron, each Transformer had a melee weapon such as Optimus had axe, Megatron has hammer like weapon and each of them had melee strike combos. But Fall of Cybertron lacks that feature. Cover system may also improves the gameplay. I hope that next game will feature cover based action.

I do not have much to say about technical aspects. The sound track and quality is better than any of the previous releases. What impress me is despite of incorporating huge 3D graphical works the game does not compromise the fluidity and dynamism. I find it to be the smoothest among 2012 pc games till now, after Allan Wake. I would like to say Fall of Cybertron has 95% uprising elements.
