Hitachi Developing Glasses-Free 3D LCD TV

Electronics maker Hitachi is currently developing a technology to make glasses-free 3D LCD TVs using Sharp’s parallax barrier technology (supposedly used in the Nintendo 3DS and that mysterious StreamTV panel). Last year at CEATEC Hitachi showed off a 10-inch prototype with a VGA screen, which used 16 projectors to create the glasses-less 3D, which is visible dependent on the viewing angle. Experts always claim that glasses would prove the barrier for most people considering buying a 3DTV, but it’s not yet known whether the parallax barrier technology can actually compete with what we’ve seen from Panasonic, who’s the only manufacturer with a 3D plasma out.

I think it's neat they are working on this, but I can you right now that the LCD shutter glass method looks far better than this will. People that are THAT fussy that they won't put on something that's no less comfortable than sunglasses are picky. For those who say they will wait for this, you'll not only have a long wait, but it will never look as good. With the glasses method, you can sit anywhere in the room and the 3d can be Amazing! Not only that but depending on content, viewing angles and distance the images can appear to float out of the screen quite nicely. With this Hitachi, it is far more limited. You must sit in the EXACT right place and it would be hard to support multiple people. It also isn't as good of a 3d effect. They can only improve them, but I can't foresee a perfect set that needs no glasses. Maybe it could happen, but I have doubts it's any time soon. So for those “waiting”, I think you are wasting your time. Either that or those people who say that, just don't have the cash anyway. Because if they did, they'd by today's 3d today, and tomorrows tomorrow.

This is the kind of 3D TV that I've been waiting to see. 3D glasses are only hassle to viewing experience. It is better to have a 3D TV free from glasses for better viewing experience.
