Apple Readying 4.7 And 5.5-inch iPhone Models, May Launch In September

It would appear that Apple is finally ready to break its 4-inch-display barrier and go for larger sizes. Rumors have it that the company is readying two new iPhone models, packing 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch display sizes.

4.7-inch iPhone concept

This is by no means the first time such a rumor has surfaced. It has been claimed in the past that the iPhone-maker is eyeing larger display sizes. And it makes all the sense for Apple, with the smartphone display sizes growing continuously over the years without eroding the consumer interest.

The fresh bit of rumor comes from Japanese publication Nikkei. According to the publication, Apple is preparing a 4.7-inch iPhone and a 5.5-inch iPhone, which will be launched in September of this year. Nikkei further claims that components for these handsets, like fingerprint sensors, are already being mass produced while LCD production engines will gear into action during the 2nd quarter of this year.

With greater size, we can almost say with certainty that Apple will also bump the display resolution of these handsets. Some have speculated that Apple may even decide to pack full HD displays in the upcoming handsets.

It is interesting to note here that Nikkei has a rather good track record of revealing Apple’s future plans. The publication was able to accurately predict the exact official launch date for iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C in Japan last year. Besides, with other publications having surfaced similar reports, there is a very strong likelihood that the next iPhone models are indeed going to come in larger sizes.
