Facebook Update Delivers Timeline and Other Improvements for iPhone and iPod

Facebook just released a hot new update in the iTunes, allowing iPhone users to enjoy Timeline feature of the popular social network on their handsets. For the time being, iPad owners won’t be able to access this new feature and they have to hang on to the promise that a similar update will address this “soon”. The 4.1 update is also available for iPod Touch.

iPhone and iPod owners had to wait a little while before they could have access to Facebook updates for their devices, but apparently it was worth the wait. Facebook teams explained that they worked to deliver a faster app for Apple handsets. In addition to the hot Timeline, which is exclusive to iPhone and iPod, Facebook introduced a set of new features supported on all iOS devices running 4.0 version or later.

Friends List is one of the features ported from the browser version to the mobile one, allowing users to segregate their friends lists into more manageable groups with specific access rights. Also the new Subscription support allows the users to follow the news about their interests, in addition to their friends’ updates. Facebook also advertises better photo management available with 4.1 update but the comments on the iTunes and on other websites that presented the news reveal that the users are neither convinced, nor impressed and probably this needs more work. However, the most talked about new feature is Timeline.

Facebook delivered just few days ago the Timeline feature for its 800 million users worldwide. In the browser, after a 7 day review period, in which users can edit and carefully chose what they want to publish, the Timeline will replace the previous profile. We still have the option of editing the way other people see all our information but the wall posting is expected to become a thing of the past.

Soon after the browser version was rolled out worldwide, the Facebook released the update for Android devices promising the users that albums and photos are going to be displayed twice as fast, messages and notifications will be accessible from the dedicated icon on top of the app and the design will have improved features.
