Amazon has dished out its latest statistics about the top-selling products in the laptop category. Quite surprisingly, Samsung Chromebook sits squarely on top of this list. The 11.6-inch laptop with rather modest specifications is a surprise since many other, more enticing, laptops are available in the market.
When it comes to the best of laptops, many think about Apple’s MacBook series. It could be a MacBook Air or a MacBook Pro but a Mac notebook, nonetheless, is considered the best of the laptops.
On the other hand, there is the issue of Windows 8 tablets. Having launched the new OS only recently, Microsoft has been pushing, together with its hardware partners, to shine the limelight on new Windows 8 laptops. For some time, it seemed that these tablets packing the new OS may indeed lead the laptop market.
But all those expectations have been turned to dust with the latest tables from Amazon. Samsung Chromebook, according to Amazon, has been in the top-selling list for 76 days now and is currently perched at number 1.
The affordable tablet with an ultra-light profile and 2GB of RAM has indeed been attracting raving reviews from many tech analysts. But few of us had hoped that the evident appeal and affordability of the laptop will make it a winning gem for both Google and Samsung.
The storage space is significantly trimmed down in the Chromebook. However, it seems that the users tend to give more thought to the price and core functionality of a laptop than for the storage space they’re getting in it – a lesson other vendors would do well to learn.
