Path Is Meant To Be A Personal Social Network For Mobile Devices, Says CEO

The online social media space currently features a number of high-profile players, each with millions of users. These include the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google Plus. However, when Path launched in 2010, it took a very different approach. Path’s CEO, Dave Morin, has now given an insight into the philosophy and idea behind it.

Path essentially allows the users to share their photos and interact with each other in a more guarded and secure environment in terms of privacy. Social networks like Facebook have been lambasted for putting the users’ privacy in danger and Path is the exact opposite of that.

In a recent talk, Path’s CEO Dave Morin said that the basic idea behind Path was to create a way to interact across mobile devices, a way which was secure and which people would use to connect to their near and dear ones.

He says, “We looked at mobile as this medium which people use to communicate and manage and maintain the relationships of the people that are closest to them.” Rather than defining the scope of privacy on their own like other social networks, Path asks the users to define the very contacts they wish to share with.

Morin further mentions that his company has no contest with other prominent social networks. That is because Path is providing a product which no one else is – the ability to connect with your close friends in a secure, efficient manner.

In this vein, he states, “Our competition isn’t what anyone else is doing in the social networking world, it’s actually SMS and email. We’re going and creating a better experience for sharing these important moments of your life.”
