Samsung has been competing with Apple in the smartphone arena for quite some time. Initially, luck had been against the former, but over time, Samsung has dished out top-end smartphones with excellent designs. Most of these are included in its Galaxy S lineup which has now passed the sales mark of 100 million.

Samsung 100 million sales

The original Galaxy S smartphone was released by Samsung more than two and a half years ago. Since then, Samsung has subsequently released three other Galaxy S smartphones, which include the Galaxy S II, Galaxy S III and finally, Galaxy S III mini.

In terms of sales, it would seem that the original Galaxy S didn’t do very well. Galaxy S II, though, has gone on to amass huge sales figures, selling 40 million units to date. Those are big numbers, given the phone was less than three years ago.

Finally, the latest in the lineup of standard-size Samsung smartphone, the Galaxy S III, has been a roaring success. Samsung has hailed it as the most successful smartphone in its history.

For instance, according to the company, its Galaxy S III is flying right off the shelves at a rate of 190,000 per day. That’s a huge number which has allowed Samsung to count in record sales of the smartphone and ship out millions of units within months. The more recently released Galaxy S III mini has also gone on to entice a sizable audience, but its limited availability and other factors have led to rather modest sales.

Overall, Samsung has started to take out the cool of Apple’s iPhone. And, the results are promising.
