Sony Ericsson Adds OnLive to Xperia Play

Sony Ericsson recently decided to add a little more flavor to its Xperia Play. The much talked about 'PlayStation Phone' from Sony Ericsson didn’t meet its sales target and the company decided to boost its popularity by adding the OnLive application, available for Android devices.

Steve Perlman, OnLive Founder and CEO explained that this was a move long expected by the fans “From the moment we launched our OnLive Android app, gamers began asking about Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY game control support.” As a result, UK and US Xperia Play owners got access to OnLive premium game titles just in time for some serious fun on this holiday. If we are to mention jus two of the top selling games Saints Row: The Third and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations would have to be the ones.

Xperia Play was released by Sony Ericsson as a smartphone designed to appeal to the heavy gamers. The main advantage of Xperia Play was from the very beginning its hybrid role between a smartphone functionality and a powerful console gaming. As T3 reviewer puts it, Sony Ericsson Xperia Play “has a perfectly decent 4-inch capacitive multi-touch LCD touch screen with a 480×854 pixel resolution and 16.7 million colors, and a 5.1-megapixel camera-cum-video recorder with auto-focus, flash, image stabilizer and geotagging, which knocks the socks off the iPhone”. Xperia Play is running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
