Pentax Optio W90 orange

Apparently two color options (green and black) just weren’t enough for the Pentax Optio W90, which will soon become available in orange. The little camera is waterproof, shockproof, dustproof, and cold proof……

If you are wondering why Pentax has suddenly decided to splash a bright orange hue onto that aluminum-alloy panel, the reasoning is that orange is a “standard color for outdoor goods,” so it should match the rest of your outdoor accessories as well. I don’t have many orange outdoor products so that explanation seems a bit far fetched, but at least this way it can’t be camouflaged and risk being lost in the woods. It would also certainly be easier to spot when bringing it underwater.

Named the PENTAX Optio W90 Shiny Orange, this new model was created in response to users’ enthusiastic request for an orange version — orange being a standard colour for outdoor goods. Its new orange-colour aluminium-alloy front panel features a fine hairline finish, producing a beautiful sparkle like a brilliantly radiating sun. The orange colour also allows users to easily match the model with many other outdoor goods that come in orange and other outdoor-oriented colours.

All Pentax Optio W90 models are waterproof, shockproof, dustproof and cold-proof and feature a Digital Microscope mode with LED lighting to capture small subjects up close.

Every PENTAX Optio W90 offers enhanced waterproof, shockproof, dustproof, and coldproof performance and features an inventive Digital Microscope mode with LED lighting to capture small but intriguing subjects. Designed with the look of mountaineering equipment, every Optio W90 kit includes a woven Web fabric strap complete with a carabiner to attach the camera to a backpack and other outdoor gear.

Designed specially for voyages, the 12.1 megapixel camera also offers 5x optical zoom. The rugged device equips a large 2.7-inch LCD with 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio for easy viewing in strong light or underwater. The W90 is waterproof up to 20 feet, shockproof up to 4 feet, coldproof up to 14 degrees, and dustproof in dry and sandy climates

The Digital Microscope mode with LED lens provided in the camera captures small but intriguing subjects. Movies are captured in widescreen 720p HD video at 30 frames per second by the device. The Optio W90 kit consists of a woven Web fabric strap complete with a carabiner to attach the camera to a backpack and other outdoor gear.

Other highlights of the camera are fast Face Detection, Smile Capture, Blink Detection, processing modes specifically designed for portraiture, infrared remote control capabilities, an autofocus lamp, and an HDMI port.

While it sort of looks like a pumpkin, it’s definitely brighter and shinier than the previous two color options. It’s so flashy that it’s almost too much, but being a rugged compact camera, Pentax can get away with it.

Its features in summary:

1.12 Megapixels.

2.Waterproof down to 6 m.

3.Sand and dustproof.

4.Shockproof to 1.5m.

5.5x wide-angle zoom.

6.3 LED for macro function, 1cm.

7.HD 720p video.

8.HDMI output.

9.2.7’’ anti-reflection LCD screen.

The 12-megapixel Optio W90 in orange will launch next month for $329.95.

DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA, IT IS NOT WATER RESISTANT AS ADVERTIZED AND PENTAX WARRANTY SERVICE IS CRAP.

Purchased this camera as we were planning a family vacation at the end of January that was going to involved the going on a cruse and being around water.

Wanted a camera that was going to be able to capture our family vacation in and around water without being destroyed.

    I MADE THE WRONG CHOICE!!!

By the second day of only taking it into the 4 foot deep pool on the boat it started taking video with lots of little squiggly lines going through it. By the end of our cruse the unit would not even turn on.

Took it back to Henrys and after a lecture about how purchasing their extended service plan would have meant an immediate replacement I was told that it would be around 8 weeks turn around for repair service.

This camera has now spent more time with Pentax warranty service than with me since I purchased it. I have a bunch of crap photos and videos from a once in a lifetime family vacation. I wish I had purchased the fuji underwater camera as my neighbor has it and it has worked great since he purchased it over a year ago and has spent many hours in his pool without issue.

I purchased mine as I get out fishing a lot. So far it has done a season, taking about 500 photos underwater (in the shallows as we release trout) without any issue. Admittedly I haven’t used the video function so can not comment on that aspect of the camera.

However, I have had absolutely no issues with its water integrity what-so-ever.

It is light, waterproof (so far as i know), fast loading, and easy to use … ideal for a fisherman …
