Dell Challenges iPad 2 With Streak Pro 10 In China

Dell launched its newest 10-inch Android tablet exclusively in China with the aim of capturing a slice of the country’s growing mobile Internet market and Dell Streak 10 Pro comes pre-installed with popular apps used in the country. Dell also emphasized the device’s low price at 2999 yuan (US$466), with contrast to Apple’s iPad 2 which costs 3688 yuan in China and Dell hasn’t announced any Android 3.x Honeycomb updates for their tablet……………

Dell has been spitting out some Android offerings for a while now and now the tablet has gone official with a launch in China. The new tablet is called the Dell Streak 10 Pro, which is geared towards the pro looking for a tablet that will work for their home and business lives. Dell Streak Pro 10 features a 10.1-inch LCD display with 1280×800 screen resolution. It is powered by a NVIDIA 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 chipset and offers 1GB RAM and 16GB internal memory. It sports 5MP rear-facing and 2MP front-facing cameras. The Wi-Fi only Dell Streak Pro 10 optimizes Android 3.1 or Honeycomb. It also offers 1080p video playback capability. The tablet weighs 1.6 pounds and is 0.51-inch thick. With these dimensions it is no match for Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 which weighs 1.3 pounds and is 0.33-inch thick while Apple iPad 2 is 0.34-inch thick and weighs 1.3 pounds. However, in its 10.1-inch avatar Dell Streak Pro 10 can compete with the likes of Motorola Xoom, HP TouchPad, Toshiba Thrive and Lenevo’s IdeaPad K1 which flaunt similar dimensions.

Dell made its foray in the tablet market in 2010 when it launched its tablet Streak with a 5-inch display. The small screen size had left the industry confused about its status – a smartphone or a tablet. The 5-inch Dell Streak is powered by Android 2.2 or Froyo. The tablet is also a full-fledged phone. It sports a WVGA screen with 800×480 screen resolution. It also offers a 5MP rear-facing and VGA front-facing cameras. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor. Dell Streak 5 has 512MB RAM and comes with a 16GB Pre-installed MicroSD. The phone weighs 7.7 oz and is 0.4-inch thick. After the initial hiccup whereby the Dell Streak 5 was lost in ambiguity due to its size, as it was too big to be a smartphone and too small to be a tablet, Dell launched a 7-inch tablet called Streak 7 in January 2011. Dell Streak 7 sports a 7-inch WVGA screen with 800x480p resolution. It is powered by a NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset and offers 16GB of internal storage and has 512MB RAM. It comes fitted with two cameras, a 5MP rear-facing and 1.3MP front-facing camera. It weighs 1 pound and is 0.49-inch thick. Dell with its Streak Pro 10 in China will face Apple’s iconic tablet iPad 2. Apple created euphoria in China when it released its iPad 2 in May. Apple Retail stores encountered long serpentine queues and a violent scuffle broke out between a customer and an Apple Store employee, leaving four people injured.
