The iPhone Dev-Team’s MuscleNerd posted a screenshot to Twitter hat showed Cydia running on a jailbroken iPhone 4S and now MuscleNerd then posted a video to YouTube that shows an iPad 2 running both iOS 5 and Cydia. Apple has patched the exploitation holes used to hack previous devices, which explains why the new hardware (iPhone 4S and iPad 2) jailbreak is still delayed and in case you want to jailbreak the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2, then all you have to do is wait a while longer, not that we’d ever advise you to go for such procedures……………….
Jailbreakers of the Chronic Dev Team claimed to have found 5 useland-based exploits in the iOS 5 that were expected to allow them to jailbreak the new iPhone and an iPhone 4S jailbreak was expected soon, even if the developers couldn’t dump the A5 bootrom that would provide a lasting jailbreak. The news comes directly from MuscleNerd, famous iPhone hacker and member of the iPhone Dev-Team – in the form of a tweet in which he shares a video of an iPad 2 jailbroken on iOS 5. The first picture shows a terminal window with root access to the device while the second screenshot shows Cydia on the iPhone 4S and to prove that the device is iPhone 4S, Siri is also activated. MuscleNerd didn’t confirm anything regarding whether they had been able to dump the A5 bootrom, but what he did reveal was that the jailbreak would be compatible with iPad 2. The video MuscleNerd uploaded shows an iOS device launching Photo Booth, which firstly confirms that the iOS device in question is, in fact, an iPad 2. He then launches Newsstand, which confirms that the iPad 2 is on iOS 5 and finally launching Cydia which confirms that the iPad 2 running iOS 5 is jailbroken! From Twitter:
Here’s a short video of current JB working on iPad2: youtu.be/oJVGl1eRW2A (Just like iPhone4S, lots of hurdles remain, no ETAs)
(For completeness (& post-verification this is real), here’s the iPad2 iOS5 ioreg dump musclenerd.com/ioreg_ipad2.txt .. 4S is earlier in timeline)
