[Tutorial] How To Check RAM Of Windows And Mac Computer

If you are planning to install new RAM memory on your Mac or Windows computer or you have certain problems with your RAM and you want to test it, this tutorial is for you. I will show you how to check how much additional RAM memory you can install, how to test it using Memtest and where you can track performance of your existing RAM.


Windows 7

To see how much RAM memory you have in your computer follow steps below.

Step 1: In your Windows right click on “My Computer” icon and from context menu choose “Properties” option. Then a new “Systems Properties” window will pop up.

Step 2: Press on the “General” tab. Here your computer will show its installed physical memory. The amount specified is the whole RAM (Random Access Memory) installed on the PC.

Step 3: See the usage memory space of RAM in order to know the free space of RAM. Click Ctrl + Alt + Del to open a new tab or launch the taskbar. Step 7: Restart your PC with the CD-ROM or disk on which you have installed windows memory space diagnostic. Then you will see the line and then the primary checking will be performed. This software will perform memory test for the second time until you close this program. It will find out all types of motherboard problems or hardware problems of RAM.

Mac OS X

If you are using the Mac OS X operating system this procedure is a bit different, however memtest tool is also available for Mac. TO get started follow steps below

Step 1: From your Mac top left side of the monitor, select “About this Mac” option from the menu.

Step 2: From the utilities file or folder, Launch ‘Activity Monitor

Step 3: Press on the “System Memory” key situated at the underneath of the tab. Then you will see the total size of your computers RAM and the present usage of RAM.

Step 4: You should remember that RAM checking in Macintosh is not as normal as the system is moderately safe.
