We have long been hearing of the social network, Diaspora. The network gained a lot of traction in the open-source world when its idea became known two years ago. The idea behind it was to give the users more freedom and control over their social interactions, quite like the philosophy that governs the open-source world.
A lot of people have been eagerly waiting for the network to launch but so far, it has been suffering delays. However, it seems that Diaspora may finally be launching this year after all.
The reason why the idea of Diaspora appealed so much to internet user was that while the popular social networks such as Facebook have been criticized and lambasted over their privacy policies, the founders of Diaspora proposed that here was a social network in which users will have control over their own personal data. Diaspora, itself, will not be exploiting any part of their personal data.
And thus, the eager wait for the network began. And now, the Diaspora folks have announced that they will be joining the Y-Combinator program, a start-up incubator that has been known for giving birth to a number of notable tech world successes. Diaspora will join the program coming summer and we are told that after the summer, the social network may finally kickstart officially.
The team has promised the users a lot of things, for instance giving them the freedom as to how they want to post their photos, tweak their own fonts and a lot more. What remains to be seen is that how far, the network will be able to live up to these promises.
