Real D and Samsung LCD Completed A License Agreement

Samsung, RealD announce licensing agreement for new LCD-based 3D panels, which promise to deliver full resolution HD images to each eye by integrating active shutter technology directly within an LCD. Samsung and RealD’s technology is an answer to the current, widespread use of active-shutter glasses with today’s 3D TVs and those glasses require batteries to operate and can be quite expensive, sequentially block out the left or right eye about 120 times per second to create the 3D effect. Samsung and RealD plan on licensing their technology to consumer electronics manufacturers and their technology will come to PC monitors first in early 2012 on 23- and 27-inch displays………

Samsung Explore 3D VOD Service

Samsung’s free Explore 3D VOD service lands for British Smart TV owners and premium cable subscriptions for the luxury of watching videos in all their three-dimensional glory, Samsung Smart TV owners in Britain can now fire up movies, music videos, trailers and other clips for free. The company promised the service would be coming to the US and Europe shortly after its Korean launch in March and plans to expand its library of free titles to over 70 by the end of 2011 and this new app will run on D8000, D7000, D6500, D6100, D6900 and D5520 TVs and is the first free 3D VOD service in the UK………..

Samsung Offers Android 2.3 Gingerbread Upgrade for GALAXY S and GALAXY Tab

Samsung has just announced via press release its plans to officially update its Galaxy S line of phones to Gingerbread starting this week, with the UK and Scandinavian countries first on the list to get the Ginger-bump and has again remained characteristically ambiguous about exactly which Galaxy S devices will be eligible or the update directly from Kies, Samsung’s device management software. This upgrade to Android 2.3 Gingerbread offers a wealth of enhancements to the platform, including support for improved 3D graphics functionality, an overall boost to performance, tweaks to the camera application and enhancements to the user interface that should make the devices significantly better in everyday use………

Samsung updates Galaxy S II, speeds up Swype and fixes auto-brightness issue and the i9100XWKE2 revision also apparently increases the responsiveness of the Swype software keyboard which is always a plus.It’s available to install via Samsung’s Kies desktop software and therein lies the catch neither update is of the over-the-air variety, which is a bit odd, since the Galaxy S II does seem to have an OTA update mechanism built-in………..

Samsung Producing 64Gb Toggle DDR 2.0 NAND Flash

Samsung Electronics announced that it is now producing high-performance DDR 2.0 multi-level-cell (MLC) memory chips based on its smallest 20-nanometer (nm) circuitry. DDR2 might have been left behind by AMD and Intel, but Samsung said the interface will “better support the ongoing shift toward advanced interfaces” such as SATA3 and USB3.
