To take a short break from this year’s edition of CES, we need to look ahead and check out what the tech giants Apple and Google have in stored for us in the near future and who is challenging the supremacy of the two game changers. The battle is now moved on the television field with major players fighting to gain the upper hand in shaping the future of this market. While analysts predicted that Apple is going to release the iTV believed to change the living room entertainment with gesture and voice controlled TV sets Google is also working its way on the top of this market.

There have been a lot of rumours that Apple was trying to acquire Anobit Technologies, an Israeli company. Anobit Technologies produces flash-memory drive, both for iPhone and iPad. In this latest update, Apple has confirmed that it has acquired the company. Steve Dowling, a spokesperson for Apple, said that he couldn’t disclose the plans of Apple regarding Anobit. It has been estimated that Apple sealed the deal at about $400 – $500 million.

Foxconn has been one of Apple’s main manufacturers for iPad. However, according to DigiTimes, this is about to change. As per sources in Apple’s supply chain, Pegatron Technology will be replacing Foxconn as the major manufacturer of iPad in the coming days. Pegatron has already started the production of iPad 3 and reportedly will be the main manufacturer of iPad 4.

Apple purchases the NAND Flash memory used in iPhone devices at highly discounted rates from NAND suppliers. And the rate at which Apple sells it to iPhone users, when they want to upgrade from default memory size to a 32-GB model, is ten times the price at which Apple originally buys it. This brings in hefty profits for Apple merely from reselling the NAND flash memory in iPhone devices.

There have been a lot of rumours over the time that Apple will release iPad 3 sometime soon in 2012. In fact, Digitimes also claimed that according to one of it’s sources, Apple will release iPad 3 at the iWorld. Some other websites claimed that the tablet will launched at CES. According to a recent post by Loop’s Jim Dalrymple, Apple won’t be releasing iPad 3 at either of these occasions and that we will have to wait longer to see the next tablet by Apple.

Apple had announced earlier that iTunes Connect, Apple’s developer portal will be offline for a few days during Christmas and that developers won’t be able to access it. According to the announcement, it was to stay offline from Dec 22 to Dec 29. But rather then the scheduling restart, the portal resumes early on Wednesday. The developers, who were earlier getting a ‘Sorry We’re closed’ message were finally able to access it.

Before the launch of iPhone 4S, a number of news sources had claimed that the back of the device would be made up of metal instead of reinforced glass. But the actual design of iPhone 4S trashed these arguments. However, the same set of rumours are back. Some sources are claiming, yet again, that the next iPhone will support a metal back. Apple officials announced that the work on its prototype store in Palo Alto is about to start “any day now”. The store is set in the heart of Palo Alto at 340 University Ave and the city officials issued the appropriate permits just ten days ago. The building, inspired by a decade of Apple’s experience in retail will be a two story structure and the iconic open space as Apple Stores are designed all over the world.
