More and more companies are jumping the tech bandwagon to make their products look cool and more trendy by advertising some kind of tech aspect of in them. One would wonder what on Earth could the technology have to do with a beer, but then Guinness does know how to spin that of. It has launched a beer glass which has a QR code and this code becomes readable only when you add Guinness to the glass.

This one is a truly novel concept. The QR codes looks really cool when Guinness is added to the glass. Since Guinness has a deep shade of black, it is able to bring out the black-and-grey combination of the QR code quite perfectly.

On the contrary, if you were to add any other liquid to this specific pint glass, say a light-colored juice, the QR code won’t be readable. Coffee may turn out to be an apt substitute of QR.

So what can you do with this QR code? Well, you can scan it with your smartphone and then the QR code will accomplish a whole lot of things for you. According to Guinness, “it tweets about your pint, updates your facebook status, checks you in via 4 square, downloads coupons and promotions, invites your friends to join, and even launches exclusive Guiness content.”

It is indeed cool that the company has found a way to advertise something so cool with a pint of beer. One hopes others follow suit it spinning more creative ideas out of their advertising.
