Google I/O 2011: Day Two Announcements

After Google’s day one Android and Music beta announcements, the Mountain View based tech giant started day two’s keynote with bang.  The headline for day two was Chrome and Chrome OS.  If you remember back to this time last year, Google had only just released Chrome 4 stable, but today we are at a very fast Chrome 12 with tons of features.  The other big announcement today was the unveiling of the long awaited Chrome OS and Chrome Notebooks.  Chrome OS notebooks or “Chromebooks” will be available in 7 countries starting on June 15th.

Here is a rundown from today’s keynote event:

  • Chrome Browser now has over 160 million users, over double from last year year
  • Chrome Web Store is expanding; Available now in over 41 languages
  • In-app payments for Chrome Web Apps
  • Angry Birds now available on Chrome Web Store
  • Chrome OS and Chrome Notebooks making worldwide debut on June 15th
  • Monthly Chromebook subscriptions for business and educational institutions starting a $20 per month

While Google Play still has a lot of catching up to do, the good thing is that Google is regularly adding newer and better features to its platform. Now, for instance, Google has added the option of in-app subscriptions for Google Play.
