Pandigital brings 7-inch Novel e-reader

It’s a new e-reader on market by Pandigital.Pandigital known as the brand among digital photo frame manufacturers. The e-reader is new foe this company.Let’s see what happen with this e-reader.

Pandigital’s best known for its hard, hard work in the game-changing digital photo frame world, but the company’s feeling a bit froggy of late. It’s latest leap is into the burgeoning e-reader market, and unlike those from Barnes & Noble and Amazon.Designed with convenience features that help reading enthusiasts get the most out of their eBooks and periodicals, the Pandigital Novel lets customers, with a simple touch of the screen, search for word meanings using the built-in dictionary, review past references with word searches, and make notes with the virtual keyboard. In addition, customers can highlight important text, create multiple bookmarks, and change the font size for optimum viewing. The Novel shares many of the characteristics of Apple’s iPad, which recently launched to great acclaim, including a full-color touchscreen LCD (800 by 600 resolution), the ability to use multiple apps for a variety of applications, and such multimedia capabilities as playing digital photos, music and some video content (at launch the device will not support Flash-based video).Novel boasts a full-color 800 x 600 resolution touchscreen, inbuilt WiFi and dimensions of 5.5- x 7.5- x 0.5-inches. The highlight here is the partnership with B&N, which gives this guy access to the bookseller’s eBookstore, not to mention the ability to share content via LendMe. Pandigital also throws in 1GB of internal memory, an SD / MMC card slot, orientation sensor, and the rechargeable battery is said to be good for a mediocre six hours on a full charge. The $199.99 Novel should be out and about next month supporting PDF, ePUB and HTML formats (yeah, there’s a web browser), and in case you were wondering, it’s based around Android and gets powered by an ARM 11 processor. So everyone what’s you think about Pandigital’s new 7-inch e-reader.

My mother got this for christmas…a few hours ago & already loves its ease of use. She’s not always tech savvy but the format translated well from her LG ally phone…so she’s less of a stranger to android based OS

Mine died, too. After I depressed the reset button, it returned from the dead. My screen was just totally grey and it wouldn’t turn off or charge. It seems to be fine for now. I only had it a day before this happened. I really do like it a lot otherwise!

i downloaded new firmware to my pandigital novel and now its frozen with a little android man on it, what do i do

Use a paper clip end and push in the tiny reset button up by the power button. It should reset to the previous firmware. Make sure you update by downloading the update to a SD card and don’t unzip the update, leave it zipped. Makes sure nothing else is on the SD card except the update. Turn the unit off. Turn the unit on by pressing the volume + button and the power button at the same time for 5 seconds or so and the little robot will come on and find the SD card and it should update.

You can’t for now. They will probably update it later to add apps but for now you can’t. You can always download the Android Open Platform update from Pandigital’s website and make it an Android Tablet which you can add apps but it will void the warranty and you have to be a tekkie, or have some computer skills to do it. Otherwise wait for the updates.

See the reply to Kendraa! for info.

Right now you can’t. Hopefully soon they will update it so you can get apps for it. You can read what I told Kendraa! for more info.

    Hi John,
I pressed the volume key and power key at the same time and the little robot appeared and now the little robot is on my screen and it is frozen and will not do anything else. HELP

  23. JohnL35

Hi Maureen, Ok, just reset it. The super tiny hole up near the power button, take a paper clip end and press in the tiny hole to reset it. It should go back to the former firmware. After it goes back to the former firmware, make sure you put the firmware update download on a SD card with nothing else on it and turn the Novel off and put the SD card in. Turn the volume + and power button on at the same time for about 5 to 10 seconds and let go. The little robot comes on with the progress bar and it should take the firmware update. Also make sure the download of the firmware update is zipped. Don’t unzip it. Just download it like it is to the SD card and that should update it. If it does hangs again after you do this, call tech support because something is wrong.

if you have the black one the canadian firmware update unlocks the android ability and if you have the white one look at instructable.com and look up pandigital and it will show you to install the android os ( white not black totally different hardware config). The white is android version 2 and the black one is version 1.5 and the sites you can get apps for the white is phoload.com and freewarelovers.com/android these will work on the white and some on the black. to get apps for the black one just search for android 1.5 they are out there

My son received the Black 7″ for Christmas and has tried to download 2 books from Barnes and Noble. They download fine, but when trying to open the book, he’s asked to enter a Card Name and Card Number to unprotect the book. What are we supposed to enter here in order for him to be able actually READ on his eREADER!? HELP!!!
