Cottage Lodge is an award winning hotel for its service and features. Christina Simons is the owner of this hotel. She has spent nearly eight years to turn this hotel into a ‘green retreat’. In one of rooms of the hotel, named the Standing Hat, she has installed a bicycle-powered television. The idea is to keep the hotel environment friendly. Check out a video of the hotel below.

Christina Simons said, “The electricity is stored in a battery and then used to power the TV. This overcomes spikes of power as you speed up or slow down”. She also mentioned that the breakthrough came by moving from a bike with 20-inch wheels to one with 26-inch wheels, which made the bi-cycle capable of spinning the generator faster. When you’re tired of pedalling, the hotel supplies electricity generated by photovoltaic cells on the roof.

People have to pay £129 (US$207) per night to enjoy cycling while watching TV at the Cottage Lodge. If you are interested to try, then call 01590 622 296 or visit www.cottagelodge.co.uk for booking.
