London Eye Will Light Up Through Positivity Of Olympic Tweets

London Olympics are just around the corner and the world is gearing up for the exciting event. But this time, the excitement wouldn’t be limited to games and sports alone. Rather, a lot of very creative projects will accompany Olympic Games this year.

For instance, the legendary athlete, Daley Thompson, has launched a very creative project of his own. His project involves a lightshow on the famous London Eye. But this wouldn’t be an ordinary light show. Rather, it would be directly linked to social media as well as to the Olympic Games.

How? Well, the lightening on the London Eye will be controlled through an intuitive algorithm. This algorithm will sift through the tweets related to Olympic Games and see whether they are positive or negative. This particular function is being termed ‘social sentiment tracking.’

Based on this measure, the algorithm will decide what part of the London Eye should be lit up. The greater is the number of positive tweets, the greater is the portion lit up. For example, if 75% on Twitter from Britain are tweeting positively about the event, 75% of the wheel would light up.

The whole project is being sponsored by EDF energy. Naturally, the company is proud to boast that this would be the first-ever social-media fuelled light show. Thompson also seems very excited about the whole project. He says, “We want to make the EDF Energy London Eye a spectacular showcase of national support for the athletes – and one that will inspire them every night of the Games.”
