Sony Is Working On A Surface-Like Tablet

Until fairly recently, Apple and Amazon were the only ones who could be called successful in the tablet market. Whereas Apple is still the winner with its iPad though a number of new competitors are entering the arena. For instance, Microsoft recently unveiled its own Surface tablets which pack great hardware. However, the price tag of these tablets will probably decide their future.

Now, according to reports, Sony has also decided to go head-on into the game. So far, Sony hasn’t seen any success in the tablet market. The company intends to pack some powerful hardware in its alleged upcoming tablet which, it is being said, will be competing directly against iPad and Surface tablets.

The tablet is being called ‘Xperia Sony Tablet’ for now. The hardware comprises of Tegra 3 Processor from NVIDIA, Android 4.0 or even better and storage options of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Moreover, the tablet will also feature the option of 3G connectivity and has a battery that can last up to 10 hours after a recharge.

The rumors surrounding the pricing of this Xperia tablet are quite interesting. The reports claim that Sony is planning to undercut Apple’s iPad prices by at least $50. So we can expect that 16GB model to arrive with a price tag of $449.99, the 32GB model priced at $549.99 and the 64GB model for $649.99.

So far, Microsoft hasn’t revealed its pricing strategy for the Surface tablets, but their prices are expected to be quite high. If Sony is indeed able to offer tablets with the aforementioned hardware and at a fairly affordable price, it can indeed gather a lot of users.
