Ford Racing Unveiled “Twin-turbo Mustang Cobra Jet” Drag Racing Car At SEMA

The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show is well-known for its vehicle debuts. And this year’s great attraction at SEMA was Ford Racing’s Twin-Turbo powered Ford Cobra Jet Project Mustang. For the first time ever Ford Racing has equipped its factory-built turn-key drag racer with a turbocharged engine. The new twin-turbo Mustang Cobra Jet is much better and more powerful than its predecessors.

Ford debuted the original Cobra Jet Mustangs back in 1968. Since then slowly but steadily, the Cobra Jet started to become a successful and popular drag racing car. However, the biggest change for the 2013 Cobra Jet is the availability of two 5.0-liter V8 engine that come in either naturally aspirated or supercharged variants. The supercharger requires 100 horsepower just to turn the 2.9-liter blower. Besides, the 2013 Cobra Jet will have a lighter body, electric power steering, a new roll cage and new suspension geometry that allows for quicker launches.
