Apple had launched a Messages beta program for OS X Lion users so that they can get a taste of Apple’s new service. Apple later made the service a part of the new OS X Mountain Lion. Now, the company has announced that the beta offering for OS X Lion users will no longer be available after December 14th.

The beta program was obviously meant to gather feedback of the users and to see if the new service could garner a good following. These purposes were apparently fulfilled. So OS X Lion will no longer be able to avail the beta program after mid-December.

However, if they really wish to continue using the Messages service, they can simply purchase the OS X Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store. OS X Mountain Lion also contains a number of other new features and updates.

Announcing the conclusion of the beta program, Apple sent an email to OS X Lion users which read:

“The Messages Beta program for Lion will end on Friday, December 14, 2012. We hope you’ve enjoyed the opportunity to preview Messages.  If you’d like to continue using Messages, upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store. Messages is one of many great new apps and features built right into OS X Mountain Lion. Learn More.  Thank you for your participation in the Messages Beta program.”
