Samsung Plans To Build 1.1 Million Square Foot R&D Facility In Silicon Valley

Samsung is certainly looking out to expand its physical and IP footprint in the Silicon Valley by a significant margin. The company has announced plans to build an 1.1 million square foot R&D center in the area, which would be accompanied with a covered parking space.

The new facility will serve as much more than only R&D headquarters. It will also serve as Samsung’s sales center.

Apparently, the chief intent behind this new facility right at the heart of Silicon Valley is to entice fresh talent in the form of employees to join the company. Samsung acknowledges that the needs of the tech sector are increasing faster than the right employees required to fulfil these needs.

It clearly cites this when it says that the purpose of the new R&D center is to, “encourage interaction among staff, foster connections with the community and provide a space to attract employment in the highly competitive tech market, which is growing at a faster pace than overall employment.”

Samsung has also stated that it plans to expand its Open Innovation space. The facility is meant to accommodate the up and coming start-ups that Samsung acquires or overlooks. The company has been rather vague about the energy-requirements for these new buildings but did say this much that they would be energy-efficient.
