Wysips Achieves 90% Transparency On Its Solar-Cell Display

Wysips has long been working on a solar-cell display overlay that could contribute a part of the total power required by a smartphone. The company has now unveiled such a display which is 90% transparent and is able to generate 3 mWc per cm².

This photovoltaic display has been in the works for quite some while now. The last milestone that Wysips had hit was that it had achieved 70% transparency of the display. Now, during the CES 2013 event, the company has revealed that it has achieved 90% transparency and is now inching towards the full 100% mark.

The current setup offered by Wysips is able to generate only sufficient power to carry out smaller tasks. For instance, if you are out under the sky and your phone is exposed to the sun, you can run your music without draining the smartphone’s battery – the Wysips solar-cell display will take care of the power needed for music playback. However, the necessity of being under the sun for all tasks for which this solar-cell display may work, can prove to be a hassle for many.

The company intends to triple the output of its solar-cell display by 2014. Once it achieves that, the display may become a lot more enticing for many of us. Nonetheless, if you wish to lay your hands on the current setup, you need only wait until September this year. The company hopes to go through the production and sampling procedures by then and there is a chance that the display would be made available commercially.
