Sharp Cuts iPad Display Production To “Minimum Level” – Reuters

Apple wants to use Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide (IGZO) display for its former iPadiPad mini and iPhone products in 2013 devices. So the company began talking with Sharp Corp. But seems like the deal between Sharp and Apple didn’t go well. Reuters has reported that Sharp has “nearly halted” production of its 9.7-inch iPad screens at the request of Apple.

Japan-based Sharp Corp. has been providing Apple display for its iPad. Sharp was trying to get orders from Apple for IGZO display. But Reuters has reported that Sharp has cut iPad display production to “minimum level”. The anonymous sources of Reuters couldn’t say why Sharp is making just the “minimum number of screens” to keep the production line moving. But, it’s being assumed that it could happen either 7.9-inch iPad Mini that was launched in November 2012, has great demand than 9.7-inch iPad or else, Apple might be switching its iPad display provider form Sharp to other like LG, the biggest iPad display supplier of Apple.

Apple has declined to comment. A Sharp spokeswoman has also declined to something on this matter. But she just said, “We don’t disclose production levels.”
