Facebook Introduces ‘Donate Now’ Button For Non-Profits

A number of non-profit organizations have a huge presence on Facebook. To complement this, Facebook has now rolled out a ‘Donate Now‘ button which lets you make donations directly through the pages of these non-profits.

Facebook Donate Now button

For a start, the new button will be available with 19 non-profit organizations. Once you click on the button, a small pop-window opens within Facebook, asking for the exact amount of the donation. Users can then proceed to choose their payment method and submit the sum to the non-profit.

The non-profits that are currently displaying the new button include UNICEF, Red Cross, Kiva, World Wildlife Fund, DonorsChoose.org and others. The ‘Donate Now’ button appears at the top of all these pages as well as at the bottom of their every News Feed post. Such non-profits who are not in the list yet can sign up for the feature here.

The best thing about this new feature is that Facebook is not going to charge any fee for it. In other words, 100% of the donations you make via Facebook will go to the non-profit you choose. As an upside for Facebook, the social network will be able to gather the credit card details of many users. But then, if you don’t like that, you can always go to the payment account settings and remove these details.

The feature is sure to become a roaring success because philanthropy tends to be more successful when done in the presence of friends and family. When one user on Facebook gives out a donation, for example, others in his or her social circle will know and may join the same cause. Such exponential effect will help non-profits raise significant donations from Facebook in the coming days.
