Jelly is a new social network which lets you ask questions and get answers from other humans. Launched only a day ago by Twitter founder Biz Stone, the new service is exclusive to mobile devices and comes with brilliant visuals.
So how exactly does Jelly work? According to the official blog post announcing the launch of the service, “Say you’re walking along and you spot something unusual. You want to know what it is so you launch Jelly, take a picture, circle it with your finger, and type, “What’s this?” That query is submitted to some people in your network who also have Jelly. Jelly notifies you when you have answers.”
However, one is forced to instantly register certain similarities between Quora and Jelly, Quora being another reputed social network which has Q&A as its main mode of communications. However, Jelly differentiates itself by being a service geared exclusively at mobile devices.
But it remains to be seen how successful yet another Q&A service turns out to be. Quora, for instance, may be a hit with a specific portion of the internet but it has failed to catch on as wildly as many other major social networks such as Twitter and Facebook. One of the key reasons for this is simply that on Q&A social networks, not many people provide valid and useful answers to most questions.
In other words, most of the queries are drowned in trolling, irrelevant responses or otherwise such answers which are of no use.
