Anonymous members don’t really reveal their identities publicly. However, there are those who represent the hacktivist group in an unofficial capacity. Among them is Barrett Brown, who claims to represent Anonymous even though he doesn’t do so officially. Now, it has been reported that Brown’s house has been raided by FBI and he has been taken into custody.
The raid took place last Wednesday. Brown was busy chatting with some other people on TinyChat when FBI raided the place and he was taken away.
The news may not have reached us except that the sounds and noise during the raid were recorded by the microphone. Brown’s girlfriend was also in the room and as soon as FBI approached, she turned off the computer’s screen. However, the audio was still on and it recorded whatever was said, shouted and yelled during the raid.
In this recording posted below, you can hear explicit words being shouted by FBI agents as well as Brown. While we don’t know for sure why Brown was taken down, it is being said that this may be in relation to a video he recently uploaded.
In this video, titled “Why I’m Going to Destroy FBI Agent Robert Smith Part Three: Revenge of the Lithe”, Brown said that he was going to gather all data about Barrett Brown and then he was going to leak those in the web. In fact, he says during the video, “When I say his life is over, I’m not saying I’m going to kill him, but I am going to ruin his life and look into his fucking kids. Because Aaron Barr did the same thing and he didn’t get raided for it. How do you like them apples?”
He then goes on to ask the people watching that video to send him any and all info they may have about Agent Smith. The video clearly is malicious and may have resulted in his recent arrest. The legal debate that may ensue as a result would be – whether or not was this video safeguarded by the First Amendment. If it isn’t, Brown may be in deep trouble.
