Wireless projection keyboards have been around for quite a while and although they are cool, they haven’t been able to gain much traction or popular support among the users. As a result, one rarely sees a projection keyboard commonly at offices or even with home users. Not deterred by these facts, Elecom has introduced a new model of wireless projection keyboard which also comes with a ‘mouse mode.’

What is definitely true about this projection keyboard from Elecom is that it is not just another projection keyboard. It is extremely portable weighing just 77 grams and with a size which is quite small and lets the users carry it around with convenience and ease.

This product is meant to target the mobile users since you can easily set up the keyboard in front of your smartphone and then use the keyboard to input text on your smartphone via Bluetooth. This applies all the same to both iOS and Android devices. The model has been named TK-PBL042BK and features not only the regular projection keyboard but also a ‘mouse mode.’  This may be of interest to some users since we haven’t seen such a feature in any of the previous projection keyboards.

In the ‘mouse mode’, you can use the projection from the Elecom device as a touchpad which then allows you to perform finger swipes of sorts. Also, once you connect the keyboard to a device via USB, it can be used to juice up the battery of that device. The key pitch of the keyboard is 19mm while it has a handling capacity of up to 350 words per minute. You can also tweak the brightness of the keyboard to three different levels, thus saving up power when required.

Overall, the product aims at a very niche market and continuing with the past tradition of projection keyboards, it can be expected to have limited success at best.
