A team of Russian researchers are building a conceptual mind-transfer android (a robot with human appearance). The team’s goal is to help humanity achieve immortality using a combination of humanoid robots and interstellar space travel to get away from a dangerous and overcrowded planet.
Social initiative Russia 2045 wants to put an end to death by creating robots that can replace our physical bodies and store our personalities on artificial brains. But the fact is, to do so we have to have ultra-advanced technology and knowledge in cybernetic medicine, brain-computer interface, robotics, artificial intelligence, cosmic expansion etc, which we don’t have now.
This Avatar program (don’t mix it with DARPA’s Avatar project) is led by Russian media mogul Dmitry Itskov. He decided to just copy and run android from a distance. The program includes some magnificent avatars.
“Before 2045 an artificial body will be created that will not only surpass the existing body in terms of functionality, but will achieve perfection of form and be no less attractive than the human body.”
Some information about the development of these futuristic robots/avatars are :
i) Avatar A : A robotic copy of a human body remotely controlled via BCI will be built between 2015-2020.
ii) Avatar B : An Avatar where a human brain is transplanted at the end of one’s life between 2020-2025.
iii) Avatar C : An Avatar with an artificial brain in which a human personality is transferred at the end of one’s life between 2030-2035.
iv) Avatar D : A complete “hologram-like avatar” will be ready between 2040-2045.
Here’s a video. It’ll explain things more elaborately.
This seems to be a far-fetched program, but researchers have already built a realistic-looking android. At present, it can just move its fingers and blink. Can you believe, this so called amateur one day will be a functioning mind-controlled robot? Check out the video below (Unfortunately, the video is in Russian language).
