Adobe Photoshop is one of the most wildly popular photo editing softwares. The company has now decided to add support for 3D printing to the software so that you can directly send print commands of an object in Photoshop to a local 3D printer.
This certainly doesn’t mean that Adobe has added the ability to edit or create 3D models in Photoshop. Rather, it is more like offering some support for a 3D model that already exists so that once in Photoshop, you can edit the model just like the software allows edits of other photographs.
Once you’ve edited the 3D object in Photoshop, the software allows you to send the print command, not only to your own local 3D printer if you have one, but also to a third-party 3D-printing service such as Shapeways.
This is certainly not a huge step forth but it is very promising. It shows that Adobe is well cognizant of the fact that before soon, photo editing software users will need tools to edit their 3D tools. And although the company has initially rolled out a very limited set of rules, it may expand these tools in the coming days and offer more advanced counterparts.
If you have already subscribed to Adobe’s Creative Cloud service, you will be able to get your hands on this new feature in Photoshop for free. However, if you don’t have an Adobe subscription already, you may need to shell out some $50 for access to Photoshop where you can then tinker with the 3D editing tools all that you like.
