Apple iBooks 1.3 Update

Apple unveiled a major update to the native e-reading app iBooks, version 1.3 for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Apple finally added a better-catalogued iBookstore tab to iTunes and iBooks 1.3 adds several new elements to April’s iBooks 1.2.2 update, like a read-aloud function for select children’s books and also have the ability to highlight words as they are being read aloud……….

Apple released an update to its iBooks iOS app andd the version 1.3 of iBooks adds a couple of new features, including a read-aloud feature for some children’s books that isn’t working yet. The read-aloud function is currently limited to a handful of children’s books. When you open a compatible book, a new speaker icon appears in the top navigation menu. Tap the speaker to bring up a volume slider, choose whether you want the book to turn pages automatically or manually, and hit the Start Reading button. A few titles will even highlight the words as they are read aloud. It appears that Apple is aware of the glitch, as the link to a list of compatible books called “Read and Listen” was removed from the iOS version of the iBookstore after we downloaded two books, though it was still up in the iTunes book store. Other updates in the iBooks 1.3 update include the ability for books containing multimedia content to automatically play audio or video, faster opening times for very large books, and a bug fix that addresses an issue where a book would display a page twice.

Apple Says :

  • Help your children learn to read with the new read-aloud feature included in select children’s books from the iBookstore. The read-aloud feature uses a real narrator to read the book to you, and in some books, it will even highlight the words as you read along.
  • Enhanced books can now automatically play audio or video included with the book.
  • Makes iBooks more responsive when opening very long books.
  • Addresses an issue where some books may display the same page twice.
