Apple has been criticized recently for a glaring SSL authentication vulnerability in Mac machines. The company has now released OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 to take care of the problem.
The SSL authentication vulnerability is as simple as an error in the ‘Goto’ command in Apple’s code. This error causes a huge security vulnerability, allowing a hacker to exploit the flaw simply by connecting with the same network. Attackers can potentially use the exploit with ease on public Wi-Fi networks.
Thanks to the 10.9.2 update, Apple has finally patched the vulnerability in OS X. The company has also dished out a number of other features in the update. These include the ability to make FaceTime audio calls, block specific iMessage users and use the ‘Call Waiting’ feature on FaceTime.
The update has arrived timely but the fact that the entire fiasco was the result of an obvious error is embarrassing for a company like Apple. A similar flaw was earlier find in iOS which Apple patched with an iOS-specific update.
