A number of smartphones today come pre-equipped with the feature of letting the user track the phone in case it goes missing. However, many users are unable to do so when the battery of the lost smartphone dies. Lookout’s Signal Flare intends to resolve this problem.
According to Lookout, it discovered that of the total smartphones that go missing, 30 percent can not be tracked simply because their battery runs out. So if the device is lost or stolen, it can no longer be retrieved, rendering the built-in tracking feature useless.
To offer a viable alternative, Lookout has now released a new feature called ‘Signal Flare.’ The feature essentially tracks down and saves the last known location of the device whenever it is running low on battery. This is done so that in case the mobile is lost and the battery goes dead, the user gets to know the last location of the device just before the battery juice ended.
Users can then determine this last recorded location by simply logging into Lookout’s website and find out this location under the Missing Device tab. The feature is now included in the free Lookout Mobile Security app, both for Android as well as iPhone users.
Such Android users who make use of the Android version of the app can also add in a few more bucks, $2.99 a month to be exact, and get a Premium version of the app which brings more advanced features such as the ability to remotely lock the phone as well as wipe the data to avoid it being accessed by anyone else.
