Sony Reveals It Sold 4.2 Million PlayStation 4 Units In 2013

Sony and Microsoft were both fairly eager to share their console sales figures with the public at CES 2014. Sony announced that it had sold 4.2 million PlayStation 4 (PS4) units before 2013 concluded.

Microsoft was the first to break silence over sales figures of the new console unit. At its CES session, the company revealed that it had sold 3 million Xbox One units by the end of 2013. Sony was quick to point out at its own CES press conference that it had sold 4.2 million PlayStation 4 units by December 28.

Clearly, Sony’s PS4 is outpacing the Xbox One in terms of sales. There is no denying that Xbox One launched nearly a week or so after PS4 which was unveiled on November 15th. However, that still means that PS4 units have been selling at nearly 700,000 units sold per week while in comparison, Xbox One has been flying off the shelves at a rate of 600,000 units per week.

Both companies pooled significant time and resources in the creation of their new consoles. Before PS4, Microsoft had taken the console crown with its Xbox 360 which outdid every other console in terms of popularity. So when we say that PS4 is doing better than Xbox One right now, it indicates an extraordinary come-back for the company.

Sony has further revealed at its CES press release that it sold 9.7 million copes of games. Moreover, the total number of subscribers for its PlayStation Plus service bumped up by nearly 90% ever since the PS4 launch.

If you’ve been thinking of laying your hands on a PlayStation 4 console, it is worth noting that the console is now available at Amazon.
