Chromebooks: Intel Comes On Board For An Extensive, New Line-Up

Chromebooks are one of the very few desktop machines that are registering good growth and turning a fine profit. Pushing this success further, Intel has now partnered with Google and many hardware vendors to unveil an extensive new line-up of Chromebooks.

Intel Chromebooks

According to a recent press conference, Intel is planning to come up with nearly 20 Chromebooks by the end of this year. The hardware vendors behind these machines will be the conventional PC giants. These include Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Dell, Lenovo, HP and others.

Acer, Asus, Lenovo and Toshiba will pack Intel Celeron Bay Trail-M SoC chips in their new Chromebook offerings. The best thing about these machines is that they will come with up to 11 hours of battery life as well as touch-enabled screens.

Acer will also offer up a higher-end Chromebook model, featuring a fourth-gen Intel Core i3 processor. This i3-based Acer Chromebook will be made available soon, carrying a price tag of $349.99Dell has also readied a Core-i3-based Chromebook machine but pricing and availability details for this machine are not known at this point. The Asus 11.6-inch C200 and 13.3-inch C300 will, however, be made available this summer.

Chromebook line-up

Google has also expanded its portfolio beyond Chromebooks, unveiling a Chromebox by HP. The Chromebox, when paired with any screen, can turn it into a fully-functional Chromebook. Another new addition is that of LG Chromebase, an all-in-one computer running Chrome OS.

Google’s overwhelming focus, for the future of Chromebooks, is on education. Although Intel dropped a few hints as to how Chromebooks have been doing exceptionally well in the education sector, we expect to hear more on this point form Google later.
