Sony’s VAIO W coming

VAIO W by Sony with 1.6GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 1,366 x 768 resolution panel, Windows 7 Starter and a GPU that won’t do 1080p coming…..

Seems like Sony wanted to do a little something to make their otherwise cookie-cutter netbook stand out a bit. Apparently, a flashy paintjob is the way to do just that.

Sony’s VAIO W netbook is one of the most expensive in it’s class, so you can be excused for not picking one up, but this may just entice you to do so. This limited edition VAIO W has been announced in Australia, designed in a partnership with Billabong.

Remember the boardshort-inspired VAIO W Billabong netbook that surfaced in Australia last week? The limited edition lappy’s headed stateside, too, and its Imperial Lime lid and faster 1.83GHz Atom N470 CPU will only cost you $50 more than the stock model.

In addition to the flashy lid that is “ideal for taking notes in class or studying on the beach,” the Lime edition netbook will feature a slightly faster 1.83GHz Atom N470 CPU, but will otherwise share the standard VAIO W specs:  1GB of RAM, 10.1” screen display, WiFi b/g/n, and a 250GB HDD. The VAIO W Imperial Lime Edition is being sold for$500, a $50 premium over the base VAIO W.

The processor is a 1.83GHz Atom, and Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth are standard fare. The battery life is said to last for seven hours.

Mind you, this is otherwise the same pricy VAIO W that wasn’t worth five Benjamins last fall, but if you’re the type that dreams of barreling down a tunnel of deep blue ocean nightly, we suppose the occasional concession can’t hurt. Now available for preorder via the source link, the mini-notebook ships June 11th; PR after the break.

The VAIO W Series Imperial Lime Edition can now be pre-ordered with prices starting at $500.
