Google Wants To Recreate Nexus 7 In Smartphone Form, Says Report

Google entered the mini tablet market by launching the 7-inch Nexus 7. The tablet packed fairly impressive hardware specifications together with the native power of Android and it was no surprise that it became a major hit in the mini-tablet arena. Banking on this success, Google is now planning to recreate the Nexus 7 experience in smartphone form, says a DigiTimes report.

Google Nexus 7

It had been recently rumored that Google has plans of launching a 5-inch Nexus tablet. But now, DigiTimes reports that the company actually intends to translate the success of its Nexus 7 tablet into a new Nexus smartphone. The smartphone would probably pack similar kind of hardware and will run the latest iteration of Android OS.

It is quite possible that the rumors of a Nexus 5 tablet and this fresh report from DigiTimes are one and the same. In that case, what seems probable is that Google is working on a 5-inch smartphone which will bring nearly the same experience as was included in the Nexus 7 tablet.

DigiTimes claims that Google is collaborating with a number of Android vendors such as Samsung, HTC, Sony and LG, to work on such a smartphone. These vendors have been given a free-hand to pursue their own design implementations of the concept as long as the hardware is based on the latest native Android release.
