Nvidia Hopes To Create Superphones With Kepler GPUs

With the release of Nvidia’s Kepler GPUs, the spirits of the personnel at the company are really high. While as users, we are still to exploit the full potential of the line of GPUs, the company itself seems confident that with the Kepler line-up, the world is ready for the next level of phones, being touted as superphones, obviously a supposed successor to smartphones. This was reflected in a recent email by Nvidia’s CEO.

Nvidia’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang recently send an email to the staffers. The email was about the launch of Nvidia’s new Kepler-based GeForce GTX 680 graphics card, which was spun quite an excitement in the tech world. This chip is very energy-efficient and marks a significant step forward for Nvidia.

In his email, Huang also tried to paint a futuristic picture, basing on the immense potential of the Kepler chips. According to him, ‘today is just the beginning of Kepler.’ He also wrote that, ‘because of its super energy-efficient architecture, we will extend GPUs into datacenters, to super thin notebooks, to superphones.’

Clearly, Nvidia does seem to bank a lot of its future plans on the Kepler chips and has grand plans for it. And given the beauty of the chip and its highly power-efficient architecture, its no wonder that the company thinks these chips can soon be used to create superphones.
